Description
The Fredric Effects Silicon Harmonic Percolator Fuzz Pedal circuit is both simple and versatile, as its careful component selection gives you a fascinating array of tones.
This modified version of the Harmonic Percolator circuit uses entirely silicon transistors manufactured 40 years ago in the former East Germany. It clips the signal using a weirdo East German diode array. The result gives you rare fuzz tones not often found on the guitar market today. As a cool design feature, Fredric have included a window in the pedal enclosure so you (and your envious friends) can see these rare hand soldered parts proudly on display. A single footswitch engages the effect, allowing you to easily bring it in and out of your signal flow and with true bypass switching, this pedal won’t colour your tone when it’s not engaged. It can run on a 9V battery or 9V DC centre negative power adapter. Insertion of external power adapter removes the battery from the circuit.
The volume knob controls the overall volume of the effect, and the gain knob allows you to adjust how much the circuit adds into the mix. A single push button in the centre of the pedal sets the diode clipping options. The up position results in no clipping for a more open and less fuzzy sound (cleaner sonically), whereas pushing the button down introduces the glorious weirdo East German diode array. These features enable the pedal to be used as a unique colour palette to your tone, adding just a little bit of the pedal into your signal chain subtly introduces the vintage tone, or pushing it will result in a stronger blend (hence the name). The overall volume will be higher with no signal clipping engaged.
