Description

The EarthQuaker Devices Avalanche Run V2 Stereo Reverb & Delay Pedal is a dreamy sonic discovery device with simple controls, boasting up to two seconds of highly tweakable delay time with lush reverb effects.

Designed to help you easily explore reverb and delay effects, it boasts and impressive selection of parameters with a simple controls layout. Giving you complete control over delay time, repeats, mix and voice (with the tone control), as well as control over the reverb length and mix, you won’t be limited to a fixed set of effects. It can run in one of three different modes: Normal, Reverse and Swell. In Normal mode, it functions as a straightforward delay and reverb. In Reverse mode, the delay line comes in reverse and the reverb remains ordinary in normal mode. In Swell mode, it reacts to your picking dynamics and adds a volume swell to the entire signal path much like manually raising and lowering the volume of your guitar.

With up to two seconds of delay time, reverse delay, tap tempo with subdivision control, switchable true bypass, buffered bypass with five different tail lengths (including a layered style lo-fi looping mode), it covers some serious sonic ground. An assignable expression control allows you to map the expression jack to a control of your choice, including the toggle, further expanding how you interact with playing your guitar as you create. The delay section allows tweaking from tape emulation to bucket brigade styles with a twist of the wide range Tone control. The cavernous, plate style reverb has just a touch of modulation like the one found in their Dispatch Master (which we also sell) only more lush sounding, with an adjustable Decay. Otherworldly reverse delay and dynamic swelling reverb settings are accessible through a three way toggle switch.

A single Time knob controls the delay time and goes from 0ms to just under 2000ms, while the Repeats knob sets the regeneration of the delay, from zero repeats to near infinite. With a single Tone control the pedal allows you to set the tone specifically for the delay line. Roll off highs to the left, or roll off lows to the right and get a flat response in the middle. Mix sets the volume for the delay line, this blends in the wet with dry until one o’clock, whereas one o’clock to three o’clock boosts the wet signal over the dry and further than this reduces dry until it is fully wet when set to max. The EXP selector allows you to set the expression pedal controls. The ratio selector switch enables you to select delay subdivisions when time input is set by the tap switch, giving you six subs, quarter note, dotted eighth, quarter note triplet, 8th note, 8th note triplet and 16th note.

It also features an expression jack that can be assigned to one of six different controls using the EXP selector switch. It also features tap tempo with six different ratios accessed via the Ratio selector switch. Buffered Bypass mode gives your effect tails and features five different tail lengths including “Infinite” for lo-fi and continuously degrading pseudo looping. The Tap switch also has a few other cool secondary functions. While in Normal and Swell mode, you can send the Avalanche Run into self oscillation by holding down the “Tap” foot switch. In Reverse, mode holding down the tap switch will flip the delay back into Normal mode and return to Reverse mode once released. The expression jack is located on the west side of the pedal. It is a TRS jack with the tip acting as the wiper. They recommend using a Moog expression pedal with the output adjustment knob all the way up and cannot guarantee any other expression pedal to work with the Avalanche Run. As a cool trick, plugging into the right input while using both the left and right outputs will give you a fully wet left channel and a standard mixed right channel while the effect is engaged. This allows you to create dramatic stereo effects by keeping the Mix set low and turning up the amplifier source connected to the left output.

Also featuring flexi-switch technology, which is a relay based, true bypass switching style allowing you to simultaneously use momentary and latching style switching:

  • Standard latching operation, tap the footswitch once to activate the effect and then tap again to bypass.
  • Momentary operation, hold the footswitch down for as long as you’d like to use the effect. Once you release the switch the effect will be bypassed, giving you the ability to add a burst of effect for as long as you hold your foot down. This adds a level of interaction between yourself and the pedal. Please note, the switching is relay based so it requires power to pass signal.
