The EarthQuaker Devices Afterneath V3 Reverb Pedal is designed to give unique and quirky tweakable reverberation textures with lots of modulation options to shape your guitar signal.

Featuring a completely analogue dry signal path, a completely digital delay path, buffered bypass with flexi-switch technology and a tails/no tails option on the bypass, this pedal will help you craft some cool tones. With six control knobs and a mode trim, there are several parameters to help you shape the available reverb effects. An expression pedal jack allows you to interact further, helping you roleplay the wizard character seen in the graphics on the top.

The Length knob controls the decay length of the reverb, while Diffuse allows you to adjust the spread. With it (or your wand) turned counter clockwise, the reverb is sharper with more attack, resulting in a stuttering sputter of individual early reflections. Clockwise casts a washy, more ambient sounding effect. Dampen results in brighter or darker tones with a mellower top end. It’s almost as if your magic changes the hardness of the soundscape. The Drag knob separates the individual digital delay lines, giving you the option for endless washes of sound. Clockwise Drag positions will gather the delay lines close together for a more standard reverb like effect or turn the Drag counter clockwise and the delay lines will begin to pull apart for a scattered ping-pong delay effect.

Reflect alters the depth of the cave/room size, and with it the regeneration of the reverb. This acts as a feedback control and will self-oscillate if cast by a high-level user. Turn clockwise for more wash and echoes, counter clockwise for less. Mix alters the balance between the input signal and the effect. It does not go fully wet, but does lower the level of the input signal as you raise this control to create the appearance of a fully wet reverb. The Drag can be put under voltage or expression control using the EXP jack located on the side and operates in nine different modes which are selected by the small mode trim control. The LED will change colours indicating which mode you are in.

The nine modes offer you either defined or more flexible reverb drag settings.

Unquantized:

• Smooth gives you response over the operating range
• Slew is a smooth response over the entire operating range, but with a musical slew that is reminiscent of turning the Varispeed knob on a vintage British tape delay. The “Drag” will lag behind the knob or CV changes and then quickly catch up
• Volt/Octave scaled to align with the one volt/octave curve to allow melodic modulation of audio in the buffer, or control the frequency of self-oscillation like a voltage controlled oscillator

Quantized, all one volt/octave:

• Chromatic Scale
• Minor Scale
• Major Scale (Lydian)
• Pentatonic Scale
• Octaves & Fifths, omits all but octaves and fifths
• Octaves omits all but octaves

Also featuring flexi-switch technology, which is a relay based, true bypass switching style allowing you to simultaneously use momentary and latching style switching:

• Standard latching operation, tap the footswitch once to activate the effect and then tap again to bypass.
• Momentary operation, hold the footswitch down for as long as you’d like to use the effect. Once you release the switch the effect will be bypassed, giving you the ability to add a plume of tone for as long as you hold your foot down. This adds a level of interaction between yourself and the pedal not offered by classic overdrives. Please note, the switching is relay based so it requires power to pass signal.
