The Dark Side workstation gives you three main effects, fuzz, delay and modulation. It enables you to precisely craft tones that give your guitar effects a symphonic quality. Featuring a completely hand built and hand soldered circuit board that contains both an analogue fuzz and a high quality 24 bit DSP engine, Keeley studied decades worth of gear and crafted effects that give you not only the original tones, but an endless range of in between sounds you can’t get elsewhere; these effects are completely unique to the Dark Side.

The Fuzz side features distortion based on a 1977 op amp, giving you the lower gain structure and nuances of earlier transistor based analogue effects. It is a more transparent sounding big fuzz, letting your guitar sing with sustain while retaining the essence of your guitar whether single coil or humbucker. With the Delay and Modulation side, using a single switch you can select between a multi-head tape delay effect or between a combination of four different modulation sounds. It has 12 different syncopated delays which are rhythmic and have the tonal quality of the old spinning drum tape delays. Featuring subtle filters, to get the tape delay setting to have the feel and warmth of the original machines, it also enables you to use modern features like expression pedal control for the number of repeats. Extremely subtle modulations in the delay make it very musical, letting you fine tune the effect. You can also use the pedal for creating a feedback oscillation delay, creating wild new space ship engine sounds.

There are four different parts to the Modulation effect, Flanger, Rotary Speaker Cabinet, U-Vibe, and Phaser. You can blend between the electric lady flanger and a les-rotary cabinet to create new sounds. Thanks to its extraordinary combination of effects, you'll be able to find the perfect blend between a vintage sounding opto-coupler based U-Vibe and the more modern little orange phaser.

The expression pedal port helps you manipulate sounds as you play, so it is highly recommended to have an expression pedal handy with this unit as functionality of the pedal is vastly expanded while you’re playing guitar. Please note a TRS style expression pedal must be used to control Dark Side. With multi-functional control knobs, the pedal keeps knobs to a minimum and the enclosure small. The Level knobs controls the overall output of the three effects. Rate controls the modulation rate of the Rotary and Uvibe and a Depth knob controls the modulation depth or the delay time. The Blend knob is most complex, with the colour coded sweep settings corresponding to give you four incremental options of the Rotary, UVibe or Delay. The Fuzz side mids switch allows you to select one of three voices, Flat, Full or Scoop.
