The Maxon OD-9 TS-9 Tube Screamer Style Overdrive Pedal is the original legendary OD-9 (TS-9) circuit with the addition of true bypass switching for clean, uncoloured tone when bypassed.

Just like the original, the current production OD-9 features the NJM (JRC) 4558D op amp which gives you an essential component for authentic “TS” overdriven tube amp tone. The NJM is smoother sounding and less compressed than other op amps, offering superior sound quality with low noise. The absence of the FET switching circuit gives the OD-9 some added output and a slightly more open sound than the OD808, making it perfect for the classic rock tones we all love, that it helped to define. Even the internal PC board is the same one that Maxon’s been using over the past 30 years, complete with empty slots where parts for the FET switching circuit have been left out. The OD-9 features mechanical true bypass switching via a Fujisoku 4PDT switch, where your input signal is sent to ground when bypassed. It can run on a 9 V battery or DC 10 V power adapter.

To generate the classic 808 overdrive tones, its non-inverting op amp has diodes in the feedback loop that clip your signal gradually, while a high pass filter keeps low frequencies from being distorted as much as the higher frequencies. After this process is a passive low pass filter and then an active tone stage which brings back frequencies previously cut. The result is a natural smooth tube amp overdrive effect.

The pedal features basic controls to let you focus on the music. A drive knob controls the amount of overdrive effect introduced and the Tone knob adjusts the EQ structure of the pedal. The Level knob controls the overall output level of affected tone, allowing you to reduce volume for bedroom play, boost volume for solos, or to balance with your original output level, thus introducing the effect without major changes in perceived volume for smoother textural transitions. Their iconic styling and unique switch plate still play careful homage to the original now vintage pedal.
