This Maxon OD-808 TS-808 Tube Screamer Style Overdrive Pedal is a reissue of their original time tested design, rebranded and famously sold by Ibanez.

More than 40 years ago, Maxon created their legendary OD808 circuit, and it has become the most used, most imitated and most lauded overdrive circuit of all time. It’s the perfect pedal for adding smooth, tube like overdrive to any clean amp. Use it as a secondary dirt channel to beef up a song’s chorus section, or keep it on all the time for the crunchy tone that has defined rock and roll.

Featuring a signal distorting diode (Panasonic #MA150) located in the negative feedback loop of the amplifier stage, it gives you a smoother, milder, more natural sounding distortion. With mild compression and slight low end cut the OD808 is perfect for tightening up high-gain amps, allowing your fast note runs to stand out with clarity while making rhythms tight and punchy. This reissue pedal uses the correct JRC4558 Op Amp that made the OD808 a defining tone of blues rock guitar legends Stevie Ray Vaughan and John Mayer, giving you confidence this one is not just a gimmick. The OD808 has also been welcomed by hosts of modern metal guitarists, enshrining this three knob pedal’s versatility.

To improve performance, the positions of the output resistors on the reissue OD808 were reversed and their values increased to reduce undesirable noise (vintage TS808’s are susceptible to microphonic noise due to static electricity build up on the chassis). This circuit change has no audible affect, except for reducing the noise floor. The colour scheme and design play homage to the original unit but give you some helpful improvements over the original design. The enclosure is now smaller and lighter (helpfully making it more affordable) and the new 'plunger' style switch features a soft click giving you a more premium tactile feel. This quieter switch also saves you the embarrassment of engaging a loud switch right before a solo in quieter settings.

The overdrive knob Controls the amount of distortion and sustain. The tone knob allows you to change the effect tone. Think of this like a tone pot. Rotate it clockwise to emphasize middle and high frequencies. The balance knob controls the overall output level of affected tone, allowing you to reduce volume for bedroom play, boost volume for solos, or to balance with your original output level, thus introducing the effect without major changes in perceived volume for smoother textural transitions. It can run on a 9v battery or DC10 V power adapter (not included).

The Maxon OD808 will give you the same much loved overdriven tube tone as their original classic green screamer pedal but with reduced microphonic noise.
