This EarthQuaker Devices Plumes JFET Tube Screamer Style Overdrive Pedal is a unique, all analogue approach to a classic tube like overdrive circuit, offering three different clipping voices, loads of headroom and an almost three dimensional clarity that will push your amp over the edge.

Based around that classic tube like circuit you all know, which your amp craves, this pedal takes a classic concept and pushes the limits. Replacing the usual 4558 IC and classic BJT transistor buffers with JFET operational amplifiers, and raised the input impedance to nearly 10 megaohms, this pedal gives you a dramatically different overdrive with lower noise, better signal integrity and more chime in your guitar's high end. The OpAmp is powered by taking the 9 V input and internally converting it to plus/negative 9 V to give it more headroom, offering you a more three dimensional overdrive tone. This added clarity is also great at pushing a nice tube amp over the edge. It will help you cut over the brash cymbals in your rock band and unleash mid heavy overdriven tones often muddied or muffled by those other over used green stomp boxes. This device takes a standard 9 V DC power supply with a 2.1 mm negative centre barrel.

Three different clipping options give you options to change up your tone swifty:

• Mode one is symmetrical clipping, utilising a pair of light emitting diodes. This is the crunchiest setting the Plumes has to offer. When played through a clean amp, it gives a tones like that classic black and gold British valve amp. If you already set your guitar amp dirty, using this mode will make it filthy
• Mode two sets the pedal as a clean boost mode which eliminates the soft clipping diodes altogether and leaves you with straight OpAmp drive. This is perfect for pushing your clean tone out in front, or for driving the preamp of an already overdriven amp into tasteful breakup
• Mode three is an asymmetrical silicon diode arrangement like a stock screamer but with more output and clean clarity; the tone some people describe as “transparent”. Using this mode gives a warmer low end response and lower output. It’s less hard on your amp and your ears. It’s a classic pleasant tone the whole band can enjoy. The tone control operates like a classic screamer but gives you enough warmth

Also featuring flexi-switch technology, which is a relay based, true bypass switching style allowing you to simultaneously use momentary and latching style switching:

• Standard latching operation, tap the footswitch once to activate the effect and then tap again to bypass.
• Momentary operation, hold the footswitch down for as long as you’d like to use the effect. Once you release the switch the effect will be bypassed, giving you the ability to add a plume of tone for as long as you hold your foot down. This adds a level of interaction between yourself and the pedal not offered by classic overdrives. Please note, the switching is relay based so it requires power to pass signal.
