Description
The Walrus Audio Slöer Stereo Ambient Reverb Pedal builds on their popular series helping you to create immersive, lush, modulated, sleepy, and ambient guitar soundscapes with more width and depth than ever before.
This updated version adds two additional reverb algorithms, stereo width control, two additional modulation wave shapes and the ability to control the sample rate. Save your favourite dreamscapes with three onboard presets by simultaneously pressing and holding down on the bypass and sustain switches. Scroll through them by simultaneously pressing and releasing bypass and sustain.
With five sleek control knobs, two fader style controls, a stereo field with switch and two footswitches the pedal boasts lots of functionality. The Decay adjusts the length of the reverb’s decay, taking your verb from a tight short reverb, to a long stretched texture when at max. Filter controls the tone of the reverb decay, with each algorithm including a low pass filter optimised for that specific sound, the knob controls the filter cut off frequency. Turn the knob clockwise to open the filter for brighter tones and turn opposite to close the filter, resulting in a darker tone. Depth controls the amount of modulation applied to the reverb decay, giving you a scale of no modulation, all the way to lots of mod including pitch bending at high settings. As an added secondary function, you can press and hold the Bypass and turn the Depth knob to control the speed of the modulation applied to the reverb decay. The Bypass LED will blink at the rate of the modulation while in secondary control mode, giving you feedback on your dialled effect. The Mix knob allows you to set the level of wet effect from fully dry to fully wet and boasts a secondary function. Pressing and holding the Bypass while turning the Mix knob allows you to incrementally pan the wet and dry signals.
A five way rotary dial gives you five different reverb modes, the three you know and love from the Slö: Dark (lower octave), Rise (ambient swell), and Dream (latching pad), and two new modes: Rain (delay tap diffusion) and Light (high octave shimmer). Secondary functions on the dial change between five different wave shapes for modulation on the reverb trail. The five different wave shapes are accessible by holding down bypass while switching the algorithm dial:
- SINE, smooth and even pitch up and down modulation
- WARP, asymmetric pitch up modulation like a warped record
- SINK, asymmetric pitch down modulation for sinking detune like a Bigsby
- SQUARE, symmetric pitch up and down modulation for stepped modulation
- RANDOM, uses sample and hold that picks new random values
It also has three on board presets (Red, Green, Blue). If the same algorithm is used in the next preset, the reverb sound spill over into the saved settings. You can scroll through the presets by pressing both stomp switches at the same time. Each press of both stomp switches will load the next preset until you get back to red. You can easily restore the pedal to its factory settings, enabling you to venture out far creatively, with an easy way home.
The pedal also boasts some other handy momentary functions, designed to give you further sounds tools to further your sonic creation. For example, when the Bypass switch is in the off position, press and hold it to temporarily activate the effect to add a moment of reverb texture. Releasing the switch turns the effect off and fades it out. When pressed, the decay switch ramps up the reverb trail to maximum creating a long, dreamy reverb trail, and then ramps back down to the decay knob setting when released. In the “Dream” algorithm, the sustain switch is latching. Press it once to capture and sustain the current reverb decay for extremely long pad-like sounds. Press it again to let the reverb trail taper off, based on the position of the decay knob.
It can run in trails or no trails mode. In trails mode, when you turn the pedal off, the reverb decay dies off naturally. With trails mode inactive, the decay abruptly cuts off when you turn off the pedal, which may be useful for a more dramatic effect or for certain live settings (sudden calm after a cacophony of sound). To toggle between either mode, hold down the bypass switch for one second while applying power to the pedal. Unplug power and repeat to toggle to the other mode.
Combining deep modulation, long washy trails, and an immersive stereo field, the Walrus Audio Sloer Stereo Reverb lets you experience a myriad of ambient sounding stereo guitar effects.
